What FXMacroData serves for the Australian dollar: 44 RBA, ABS and BIS series, from the cash rate and monthly CPI to jobs, trade and the balance of payments, with release times and a worked API example.

**Quick answer**

FXMacroData serves 44 Australian dollar series from the production catalogue, sourced from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and, for the effective exchange rate, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Coverage runs from the RBA cash rate and AONIA through monthly CPI, the quarterly trimmed mean, the Labour Force survey, GDP, trade, the full balance of payments, money supply and the RBA commodity price index.

It matters because AUD/USD is driven by a small set of scheduled events: RBA decisions, CPI, jobs and trade. Each release is stored with its announcement timestamp, so you can line up the number with the exact moment the market saw it.

This guide lists what is in the AUD catalogue, who publishes each series, when the releases land in Sydney time and UTC, and how FX traders typically put the data to work in AUD/USD and the AUD crosses.

## Who publishes Australian dollar data

**Reserve Bank of Australia.**The RBA sets the cash rate target and publishes the statistical tables FXMacroData reads for money and credit (table D3 and the credit aggregates), government bond yields (table F2), the overnight AONIA rate, the RBA balance sheet, official reserve assets and the RBA Index of Commodity Prices.

**Australian Bureau of Statistics.**The ABS publishes the consumer price index (now a complete monthly CPI, with the trimmed mean and weighted median still quarterly), the Labour Force survey, national accounts, the Wage Price Index, producer prices, international trade in goods, the balance of payments and international investment position, building approvals, the Monthly Household Spending Indicator and dwelling prices.

**Bank for International Settlements.**The AUD trade-weighted index in the API is the BIS nominal effective exchange rate (broad basket, 2020=100). It is not the RBA's own TWI, which uses different weights, so the two should not be spliced.

FXMacroData reads each series from the publisher's own files or release pages, stores the value with the source series identifier, and records an`announcement_datetime`for each release. New releases typically reach the API within seconds of official publication; measured timings are on the[release speed](/release-speed) page.

## AUD indicators covered

Every series below is listed in the production catalogue at`/v1/data_catalogue/aud`. The slug in brackets is the`indicator`value used in API calls.

### Policy and rates

- **[RBA cash rate target](/australia/policy-rate)**(`policy_rate`): one row per Monetary Policy Board decision, holds included, back to 1990. It is the anchor for AUD rate differentials against the Fed, ECB and RBNZ.

- **[AONIA](/australia/risk-free-rate)**(`risk_free_rate`): the daily interbank overnight cash rate, which shows how the cash rate is actually transmitting into funding markets.

- **Government bond yields**([2-year](/australia/gov-bond-2y) ,[3-year](/australia/gov-bond-3y) ,[5-year](/australia/gov-bond-5y) ,[10-year](/australia/gov-bond-10y) ): daily RBA table F2 yields. The 2-year and 3-year track RBA expectations; the 3-year is also the benchmark for Australian bond futures. The RBA updates F2 in batches, so these yields usually arrive one to two weeks after the trading day they describe.

- **[Indexed bond yield](/australia/inflation-linked-bond)**(`inflation_linked_bond`): the daily real yield on Australian Government indexed bonds, also from table F2, useful for a real-rate view of the curve.

### Inflation

- **[Monthly CPI (headline, year on year)](/aud/inflation)**(`inflation`): the complete monthly CPI that the ABS introduced in late 2025, with reference periods from April 2025. It has replaced the old Monthly CPI Indicator and is now the most frequent read on Australian prices.

- **[Trimmed mean inflation](/australia/trimmed-mean-inflation)**(`trimmed_mean_inflation`): the quarterly underlying measure the RBA watches most closely against its 2 to 3 percent target band.

- **[Weighted median CPI](/aud/inflation/core-cpi)**(`core_inflation`): the second quarterly underlying measure, with history back to the 1920s.

- **[Producer Price Index](/aud/inflation/ppi)**(`ppi`): quarterly final-demand producer prices, an early signal for consumer goods inflation.

### Growth and activity

- **[GDP](/australia/gdp)**(`gdp`): quarterly national accounts in AUD billion, released about two months after quarter end.

- **[Monthly Household Spending](/australia/household-spending)**(`household_spending`): month-on-month change in the ABS spending indicator, the closest Australian equivalent to a monthly consumption print.

- **[Private dwelling approvals](/australia/building-approvals)**(`building_approvals`): monthly approvals in thousands, a leading indicator for construction and a sensitive read on the rate cycle.

- **[Mean dwelling price growth](/australia/house-price-index)**(`house_price_index`): quarterly year-on-year change in the mean price of residential dwellings, relevant to household wealth and RBA financial-stability commentary.

### Labour market

- **[Unemployment rate](/australia/unemployment)**(`unemployment`): the headline from the monthly Labour Force survey and one of the most market-moving AUD releases.

- **[Employment](/australia/employment)**(`employment`): total employed persons; the month-on-month change is the number traders quote.

- **Employment detail**([full-time](/australia/full-time-employment) ,[part-time](/australia/part-time-employment) ,[participation rate](/australia/participation-rate) ): the composition of the jobs change and the share of the population in the labour force, which decide whether a headline beat is strong or soft.

- **Wages**([Wage Price Index](/australia/wage-price-index) ,[wages](/australia/wages) ): quarterly year-on-year WPI growth. Both slugs serve the same ABS measure; it is the RBA's preferred gauge of labour-cost pressure.

### External accounts

- **Goods trade**([trade balance](/australia/trade-balance) ,[exports](/australia/exports) ,[imports](/australia/imports) ): monthly goods trade in AUD million. Australia's surplus is driven by iron ore, coal and LNG, so it is a direct read on commodity income.

- **[Terms of trade](/australia/terms-of-trade)**(`terms_of_trade`): the quarterly ratio of export to import prices from the national accounts, a long-run anchor for AUD valuation.

- **[Current account balance](/australia/current-account-balance)**(`current_account_balance`): quarterly, alongside its components: the balance on services, primary income balance, secondary income balance, capital account and financial account balances (slugs`balance_on_services`,`primary_income_balance`,`secondary_income_balance`,`capital_account_balance`,`financial_account_balance`).

- **Net international investment position**(`net_foreign_asset_position`): quarterly, served as assets less liabilities so a debtor position is negative, with gross`international_assets`and`international_liabilities`alongside.

- **[Trade-weighted index (BIS NEER)](/australia/trade-weighted-index)**(`trade_weighted_index`): monthly nominal effective exchange rate, for judging AUD strength against all partners rather than only the US dollar.

- **[RBA Index of Commodity Prices](/australia/commodity-prices)**(`commodity_prices`): monthly, in Australian dollars (2024/25=100). It is the cleanest official link between AUD and the prices of what Australia exports.

### Money, credit and reserves

- **Money supply**([M1](/australia/m1) ,[M3](/australia/m3) ,[broad money](/australia/broad-money) ): monthly RBA table D3 aggregates in AUD billion. The RBA publishes no M2.

- **[Private sector credit growth](/australia/credit-growth)**(`credit_growth`): monthly year-on-year growth in lending to households and businesses.

- **[RBA total assets](/australia/cb-assets)**(`cb_assets`): weekly balance sheet size, which tracks the run-off of pandemic-era bond holdings.

- **Official reserves**([foreign currency assets](/australia/foreign-reserves) ,[gold holdings](/australia/gold-reserves) ): monthly RBA official reserve assets in AUD million.

## AUD release timing

Most ABS releases land at 11:30 Sydney time and RBA decisions at 14:30. Sydney observes daylight saving from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, so the UTC time moves by an hour twice a year while the local time stays fixed. The UTC column below shows Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST, UTC+10) first and daylight time (AEDT, UTC+11) second; the zone is`Australia/Sydney`.

Release Publisher Local time UTC Typical schedule**RBA cash rate decision**RBA 14:30 04:30 / 03:30 8 meetings a year; statement at 14:30, press conference at 15:30**Monthly CPI**ABS 11:30 01:30 / 00:30 Last Wednesday of the following month (for example 30 September 2026 for August)**Trimmed mean and weighted median**ABS 11:30 01:30 / 00:30 Quarterly, late in the month after quarter end**Labour Force (unemployment, employment)**ABS 11:30 01:30 / 00:30 Monthly, a Thursday in the second half of the month**GDP and terms of trade**ABS 11:30 01:30 / 00:30 Quarterly, first Wednesday of the third month after quarter end**Balance of payments**ABS 11:30 01:30 / 00:30 Quarterly, the day before GDP**Goods trade**ABS 11:30 01:30 / 00:30 Monthly, early in the month (usually a Thursday)**Wage Price Index**ABS 11:30 01:30 / 00:30 Quarterly, mid-month after quarter end**Money, credit and reserves**RBA 11:30 01:30 / 00:30 Monthly, last business day (reserves mid-month)**Commodity prices and RBA balance sheet**RBA 16:30 06:30 / 05:30 Commodity index early in the month; balance sheet weekly on Fridays

The 11:30 Sydney slot falls in the Asian morning and the late New York evening, so AUD reacts first in thin Asian liquidity. The full schedule, with every upcoming date converted to your time zone, is on the[release calendar](/dashboard/release-calendar) , and RBA statements and minutes appear in the[AUD press release feed](/dashboard/press-releases/aud) .

## Worked example: the August 2026 monthly CPI

The ABS released the August 2026 monthly CPI on Wednesday 30 September 2026 at 11:30 Sydney time. This request returns it:

```
curl -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_API_KEY" "https://api.fxmacrodata.com/v1/announcements/aud/inflation?start_date=2026-09-01"
```

The newest row in the response (abridged to the core fields):

```
{
  "date": "2026-08-31",
  "val": 4.0,
  "announcement_datetime": 1790731800,
  "previous_value": 3.5,
  "previous_date": "2026-07-31"
}
```

`date`is the reference period (August 2026),`val`is headline CPI inflation of 4.0 percent year on year, and`announcement_datetime`is the Unix time of publication: 1790731800 is 01:30:00 UTC on 30 September 2026, which is 11:30 AEST. The prior month was 3.5 percent, so the print was a half-point acceleration, the kind of surprise that reprices RBA expectations and moves AUD/USD within the first minute.

## How traders use AUD data

### CPI against the RBA path

Compare each monthly CPI and each quarterly trimmed mean with the RBA's 2 to 3 percent target band and the most recent cash rate decision. A print that pushes trimmed mean further from the band makes a move at the next Board meeting more likely; pull the AONIA and 2-year yield series to see how much of that is already priced.

### Terms of trade and commodity income

AUD is a commodity currency. The RBA commodity price index (monthly) and the terms of trade (quarterly) show whether export prices are lifting national income. Rising commodity prices with a widening goods surplus has historically supported AUD/USD; a falling index with a narrowing surplus removes that support.

### Labour Force day

The monthly unemployment rate is the single most volatile scheduled AUD release. Read the headline together with full-time employment and participation: a lower unemployment rate caused by falling participation is weaker than one driven by full-time hiring.

### Rate differentials in the crosses

Pair the RBA cash rate and AU 2-year yield with the matching series for the US, New Zealand or Japan to track AUD/USD, AUD/NZD and AUD/JPY carry. The API returns every currency in the same JSON shape, so a differential is a subtraction, not a data-cleaning project.

### External funding risk

Australia runs a net foreign liability position. The quarterly current account and net international investment position show how dependent AUD is on foreign capital, which matters most in global risk-off episodes.
