Connect OpenClaw to FXMacroData through MCP, build a sourced forex morning brief, and schedule bounded research updates in your preferred chat app.

**OpenClaw can turn FXMacroData into a personal forex research desk you message from your phone.**Connect the hosted MCP service, define a focused currency-pair brief, and schedule a review in your trading-session timezone. The result is a repeatable explanation of the evidence, upcoming catalysts and conditions that would change your view.

**Who this guide is for:**traders and analysts who want a self-hosted assistant in Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack or another supported chat channel. You will build a morning briefing and event watch. For occasional manual research, the FXMacroData dashboards provide a simpler starting point.

A useful assistant earns its place before the trading session begins. For[EUR/USD](/dashboard/EUR_USD) , that might mean comparing the policy context on each side, identifying the next confirmed catalyst, and explaining what would weaken yesterday's thesis. OpenClaw handles the conversation and scheduled work; FXMacroData supplies the economic observations. The improvement to measure is preparation time and evidence quality, alongside any later strategy evaluation.

OpenClaw's[official overview](https://docs.openclaw.ai/) describes a self-hosted gateway connecting chat apps to AI agents. Its value here is continuity: ask a follow-up from your phone, retain your preferred brief format, and revisit the same research process tomorrow.

### Prerequisites

- An installed OpenClaw instance, a configured model provider and a working conversation.

- FXMacroData access for the currencies you intend to research and an API key available securely to the OpenClaw process.

- A connected chat channel if you want delivered briefings.

- An explicit research timezone, a limited watchlist and a machine that can remain available for scheduled work.

## 1. Choose one pair and a useful brief

Start with one question: what changed in the evidence for EUR/USD since the previous review? Include the[Federal Reserve](/dashboard/press-releases/usd) and[European Central Bank](/dashboard/press-releases/eur) policy context, relevant[US inflation](/united-states/inflation#api-docs) observations and the[release calendar](/dashboard/release-calendar) . A larger watchlist can follow once the brief is dependable.

Give each connection a clear role. A chat channel is the delivery surface; it does not replace the data connection. A stored daily FX or reference OHLC observation gives historical context, while executable bid/ask quotes and fills belong to the broker or an appropriately entitled market-data feed.

Three connections with different jobs Surface Who uses it Purpose FXMacroData MCP OpenClaw's agent Discover and call economic-data tools during research. Telegram or another channel You and OpenClaw Ask questions and receive the finished brief.

Connection map

### Follow the brief from your chat to its evidence

- 01**Your chat channel**

Send the pair, research window and question through your connected chat.

- 02**OpenClaw gateway**

The available host runs the agent and applies its tool-access policy.

- 03**FXMacroData MCP**

A bounded authenticated call retrieves the economic evidence for the brief.

- 04**Reviewed research note**

Receive observations, sources, conditional interpretation and the next check.

Chat delivery, economic-data access and broker permissions have separate jobs. A successful brief does not grant permission to place an order.

The conversation is the front door; the evidence connection determines what the research note can support.

## 2. Connect FXMacroData through MCP

Complete OpenClaw onboarding and confirm a normal chat works. Then merge this connector into`~/.openclaw/openclaw.json`, preserving your existing settings. Make`FXMD_API_KEY`available through your protected environment or credential configuration; keep its value out of prompts and shared files.

```
{
  "mcp": {
    "servers": {
      "fxmacrodata": {
        "url": "https://mcp.fxmacrodata.com",
        "transport": "streamable-http",
        "enabled": true,
        "headers": {
          "Authorization": "Bearer ${FXMD_API_KEY}"
        }
      }
    }
  }
}
```

OpenClaw documents this server map, HTTP transport and environment-reference pattern. Its graphical route is**Settings → MCP → Add server**; advanced headers are available in the configuration editor. If you prefer supported browser authorization, use`auth: "oauth"`instead of the static header and complete`openclaw mcp login fxmacrodata`.

Check discovery with the documented probe command:

```
openclaw mcp doctor fxmacrodata --probe
```

Next request one small data result and inspect the actual response. A saved connector or visible tool list establishes less than a successful call. Review the discovered tool names and restrict access to the capabilities your brief needs. The[FXMacroData MCP guide](/mcp) explains data access; OpenClaw's connector documentation explains client configuration.

## 3. Ask for evidence before interpretation

Use a stable output format: retrieval cutoff, observations with units and reference periods, upcoming confirmed events, a conditional thesis, and contrary evidence. Separate a published actual from its previous value and any forecast. Calculate a consensus surprise only when the forecast existed before publication and matches the actual's units, definition and horizon.

**Reader example: morning research prompt**

>

Prepare a EUR/USD brief using FXMacroData. State the retrieval cutoff in UTC. Retrieve a bounded set of relevant recent observations and upcoming confirmed events. Keep actual, prior and ex-ante consensus separate. Explain the policy context, the strongest contrary evidence and what would change the thesis. Label unavailable fields. Distinguish observations from your interpretation.

For a second scenario, ask what could change the view around a policy decision. A scheduled clock time does not prove that publication has occurred, and an unavailable exact time must remain unknown. This is where a structured brief prevents a persuasive but premature explanation.

**Reader example: event review prompt**

>

Compare the latest relevant policy evidence with my previous EUR/USD brief. Identify confirmed changes, unchanged observations and data still unavailable. Use publication evidence when supplied; do not infer release times from cadence or capture clocks. Give two conditional scenarios and the evidence required to distinguish them. Produce a research note for my review.

Illustrative output

### Read a EUR/USD brief in three layers

Evidence

#### What was retrieved

Cutoff, observation periods, units and source links accompany the relevant policy and[inflation](/indicators/inflation) records. Confirmed catalysts stay separate from published observations.

Interpretation

#### Why it could matter

The note connects relative policy context to a conditional EUR/USD view and identifies contrary evidence. Each explanation points back to the observation it uses.

Next check

#### What could change the view

The brief names the next evidence to inspect and the condition that would weaken its thesis. Missing consensus or an unknown exact publication time remains visible.

Inspect the evidence layer before accepting the interpretation. A fluent summary cannot fill a missing observation.

Illustrative brief structure; populated with retrieved observations during an actual run.

## 4. Schedule a morning review

Run the prompt manually before putting it on a schedule. The following adapts OpenClaw's documented recurring-job syntax for a weekday London morning. Replace the destination with your connected Telegram chat identifier.

```
openclaw automations create "0 7 * * 1-5" \
  "Use FXMacroData to prepare my bounded EUR/USD morning brief. State the cutoff, verified events, contrary evidence and missing data." \
  --name "FX morning brief" \
  --tz "Europe/London" \
  --session isolated \
  --announce \
  --channel telegram \
  --to "YOUR_TELEGRAM_CHAT_ID"
```

This is a research-review schedule. Official event timing must come from the calendar, and changes in daylight saving must be handled through the chosen timezone. Since the job uses an isolated session, put essential requirements in its prompt or a reviewed reusable skill.

The gateway and host must be running, with working credentials and connectivity. Laptop sleep can interrupt the workflow. Inspect`openclaw automations list`and`openclaw automations runs <job-id>`, then confirm one real delivery. Treat a missed run as an operational failure to investigate before relying on the next brief.

Step through the workflow

### From a morning question to a delivered brief

- 1 · Scope

- 2 · Evidence

- 3 · Review

- 4 · Delivery

Scope

#### Define the morning request

Keep the EUR/USD watchlist, cutoff, timezone and delivery destination explicit before asking for a brief.

Changed input Research scope and output format are selected.

Reader check Confirm the pair, research window and intended channel.

Evidence

#### Verify one bounded data call

A saved MCP definition becomes useful after a small authenticated call returns evidence with units, periods and source fields.

Changed input MCP discovery and a successful retrieval.

Reader check Check the actual response; report unavailable data or a failed call.

Review

#### Read the evidence and conditional view

Separate retrieved observations from the explanation, then record contrary evidence and what would change the EUR/USD view.

Changed input A dated brief is ready for inspection.

Reader check Trace each observation to its source and leave unknown times unknown.

Delivery

#### Deliver the reviewed brief

Schedule the proven prompt in the chosen timezone, then inspect the run and confirm the note reaches the connected chat.

Changed input A scheduled run produces a delivery result.

Reader check Confirm host availability and delivery before relying on the next scheduled review.

## 5. Keep a REST fallback for application-owned checks

MCP remains the conversational path. A server-side fallback is useful when your application needs a reproducible response to inspect independently of the model. For example, retrieve a small[US policy-rate](/united-states/policy-rate#api-docs) history with the REST header:

```
curl --fail --silent --show-error \
  -H "X-API-Key: ${FXMD_API_KEY}" \
  "https://api.fxmacrodata.com/v1/announcements/usd/policy_rate?limit=20&offset=0"
```

Run this on your trusted server or workstation, never in public browser JavaScript. REST uses`X-API-Key`; the MCP connector uses its Bearer header or OAuth. List endpoints default to 20 rows, accept a maximum`limit`of 100, and use`offset`pagination until`pagination.has_more`is false. Stop early when the research window is complete.

Retain response timestamps and source fields. If a call fails, report the failure; never substitute a remembered value. The[API client patterns guide](/articles/production-patterns-for-fxmacrodata-api-clients) covers bounded retrieval and reliable handling around your application.

## 6. Accept the workflow against concrete checks

- A small authenticated tool call succeeds for each required currency.

- The brief preserves units, observation periods, publication status and source attribution.

- Unavailable consensus or calendar times stay unavailable.

- The scheduled run reaches the intended channel and exposes failures.

- Research output remains subject to review; broker actions require separate permissions and execution controls.
