Use the published Go module to retrieve policy-rate observations and a calendar, with header authentication and explicit handling of unavailable data.

**Quick answer:**Use the FXMacroData Go module to request a named series, check the response, and pass an identified observation to the rest of the application.

A recurring macro report should be able to explain which observation it used even after the market discussion has moved on. That requirement becomes more important when a small Go program turns into a scheduled service: a successful process exit is useful only if the output still means what the report says it means.

This guide uses the published Go client for a[US policy-rate](/united-states/policy-rate#api-docs) brief. The example retrieves observations and planning context, then treats the economic interpretation as a separate step. It uses the SDK rather than introducing a second hand-written HTTP client.

**Who this is for:**Go developers building recurring research reports or application inputs from macro observations.

## 1. Add the public module to a Go project

Use the Go version required by the module and keep its resolved version in the project dependency files. Install the package through your approved dependency process:

```
go get github.com/fxmacrodata/fxmacrodata-go
```

Start with one currency and indicator. Public USD access can be used to evaluate the workflow; a protected dataset requires the appropriate subscription. Supply that credential through the program's environment and keep it out of command arguments, request URLs and shared example files.

From a question to a traceable research input
- Create the public SDK client

- Request one identified series

- Validate the observation

- Attach calendar context to a research note

## 2. Configure header authentication

The module's quickstart uses a request context for optional header credentials. The following code belongs inside`main`, after importing`context`,`os`,`fmt`and the module under the alias`fxmacrodata`:

```
client := fxmacrodata.NewAPIClient(fxmacrodata.NewConfiguration())
ctx := context.Background()
if key := os.Getenv("FXMACRODATA_API_KEY"); key != "" {
    ctx = context.WithValue(ctx, fxmacrodata.ContextAPIKeys,
        map[string]fxmacrodata.APIKey{
            "APIKeyHeader": {Key: key},
        })
}
```

The client sends the credential in the`X-API-Key`header. An anonymous request omits the optional key. Keep application error reporting separate from raw request dumps so an ordinary failure does not turn a research report into a record of authentication details.

## 3. Retrieve and inspect the policy-rate response

```
rates, _, err := client.FXMacroDataAPI.
    GetAnnouncements(ctx, "USD", "policy_rate").Execute()
if err != nil {
    fmt.Println("Policy-rate request failed")
    return
}
if len(rates.Data) == 0 {
    fmt.Println("No policy-rate observations returned")
    return
}
latest := rates.Data[0]
value, ok := latest.GetValOk()
if !ok || value == nil {
    fmt.Println("Policy-rate value unavailable")
    return
}
fmt.Printf("USD policy rate: %v on %s\n",
    *value, latest.Date)
```

The published repository contains the complete quickstart and generated model documentation. Inspect the returned ordering, nullable fields and metadata before adapting this first-row example to a production report. A missing observation should remain unavailable; it must not become a zero rate or a reused value from a previously selected currency.

Preserve the response alongside any compact object passed downstream. A presentation object can contain the currency, indicator, reference period and value, but the research record should retain the unit and source context too. That makes it possible to explain a difference between two report runs without guessing which series was selected.

## 4. Add planning context without inventing a result

```
calendar, _, err := client.FXMacroDataAPI.
    GetCalendar(ctx, "USD").Execute()
if err != nil {
    fmt.Println("Calendar request failed")
    return
}
fmt.Println(calendar)
```

The calendar answers a different question from the policy-rate history. It describes scheduled events, while the observations describe data already returned by the service. A report may put the two next to each other, but it should label them separately. A planned meeting does not imply that a new decision is available.

Choice Research consequence Observation history Identify the measure, reference period and returned value. Release calendar Identify confirmed upcoming events and their time basis. Research conclusion Explain how the observation and event risks affect the question being studied.

## 5. Write the economic interpretation

A policy-rate brief becomes useful when it says why the level matters to the question at hand. For a dollar-focused report, discuss the policy setting alongside the inflation or growth evidence you have actually retrieved. For a currency-pair comparison, obtain the second economy's context before describing a relative policy stance. Do not infer an exchange-rate forecast from the sign of one policy-rate change.

Keep descriptive research separate from a trading experiment. A current history response can include information that differs from an earlier vintage. A historical strategy must establish which observation version was available at each decision time, rather than joining today's series to past prices by date alone.

## 6. Make recurring output worth trusting

Store a retrieval time and request scope with each report input. Test an empty response and a failed request before scheduling the job. The next successful run should produce an identified new research input, while a failed run should leave a clear unavailable result or an explicitly dated prior report.

Measure whether the report can be reproduced, whether its series labels survive formatting, and whether repeated runs remain easy to compare. Those checks matter more than expanding the first program into an exhaustive endpoint catalogue. Once the policy-rate brief is understandable, add another series through the same client and carry its economic meaning through the same process.
