Claude Macro Research: Introducing the FXMacroData Plugin

Install the FXMacroData Claude plugin and build a sourced release agenda, inflation review or currency brief with three practical starter prompts.

FXMacroData is now available in Claude's plugin directory. Add the plugin to bring official-source economic histories, release calendars and currency research into your Claude conversations. It bundles research skills, six commands and a hosted data connector.

Claude plugins require a paid Claude plan. FXMacroData's public USD baseline needs no separate FXMacroData account or API key, within its public history window and release delay. Protected datasets require appropriate access.

A useful macro brief needs more than a persuasive summary. It needs the observation period beside the number, the original unit, an official source and a clear distinction between a published observation and the next scheduled release.

The FXMacroData plugin gives Claude a research workflow built around those details. You can start with a plain-language question, inspect the evidence and ask a follow-up without moving the data between a calendar, a spreadsheet and a separate chat.

Add FXMacroData to Claude

Add to Claude

  1. Open the FXMacroData plugin page in Claude.
  2. Select Add. You can also find it under Customize → Plugins → Discover by searching for FXMacroData.
  3. Connect FXMacroData when prompted. Start with the public USD data, or use your own FXMacroData account through the connection flow for protected access.
  4. Open a conversation and try one focused research question.

Anthropic currently makes plugins available on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. Organization policies can restrict installation. Your Claude subscription and your FXMacroData data entitlement are separate.

Three useful first questions

Start with a small question whose result you can check. These prompts specify the scope and the evidence to keep.

  1. Ask a focused question
Choose the country, period and timezone.
  2. Retrieve the evidence
    Claude uses the FXMacroData connection.
  3. Review the brief
Check the period, unit and official source.
Keep the evidence visible as you move from a research question to an explanation.

1. Build a release agenda

Use FXMacroData to show confirmed US economic releases for the next seven days in Australia/Sydney time. Include the indicator and exact scheduled time. Say if no releases are returned.

The result should give you a usable agenda rather than an inferred schedule. A blank result should remain blank, with its requested window clear. This is a practical starting point for a daily research routine.

2. Put inflation in context

Show the latest three available US inflation observations from FXMacroData. Include each observation period, unit, official source and any revision or publication-time qualification.

For US inflation, the reference period matters as much as the value. Keep that period visible when asking Claude to explain the direction of change. A current history can include revisions, so it should not automatically be treated as the information available at an earlier trading decision.

3. Compare two currency drivers

Compare the latest available Australian and US inflation observations using FXMacroData. Preserve each period and unit. If access is required, explain that rather than substituting another currency.

This moves the conversation toward currency research while keeping the comparison honest. Australian inflation and US inflation may have different publication schedules or available periods. Ask Claude to identify those differences before drawing a conclusion. This workflow requires access to the relevant protected data.

A broader research toolkit

The connection discovers the server's advertised tools dynamically. The plugin's research workflows can use the following capabilities, subject to the connected account's access and the host's rendering support:

Research questionAvailable evidence
What changed in the economy?Indicator histories, latest releases, revisions and official news.
What is scheduled next?Release calendars, forecast coverage and predictions where available.
What is driving a currency?FX reference data, policy curves, rate differentials, market sessions and COT positioning.
What does the wider market show?Commodities, financial prices, risk sentiment, seasonality and official dataset families.
How can I examine the evidence?Research tasks and visual tools, with structured tables when an interactive chart cannot render.

Availability of a tool does not establish coverage for every series or date range. Forecasts should retain their publisher and forecast type; model estimates should not be relabelled market consensus.

Use the same research habits in Claude Code

After installing the plugin in Claude Code, start a USD brief with:

/fxmacrodata:macro-brief USD

The repository also supports Claude Code. Its focused commands include /fxmacrodata:connection-check, /fxmacrodata:macro-brief USD and /fxmacrodata:release-context USD policy_rate. Pair briefs, currency comparisons and a general macro-research command provide additional starting points.

Developers can find installation instructions and the complete tool reference in the public plugin repository. The repository contains the integration bundle; FXMacroData hosts the data service.

Make the first useful result repeatable

Choose one recurring output: a release agenda, an inflation review or a short currency brief. Keep the question's date range, timezone and evidence requirements consistent. A useful answer should let you trace a number back to its source and understand what remains unavailable.

The connection is read-only. It provides research data and cannot place trades or change accounts. Use the host's connection flow for account access, and keep passwords and API keys out of conversations.
