Add an Economic Calendar Widget to a Wix Site
Add a live economic calendar, countdown, central bank rates table or FX macro chart to a Wix page with the Embed HTML element. The widget is free with attribution, needs no API key and updates itself from official-source data.
What you need
- A Wix site you can edit, in the Wix Editor or Wix Studio
- The widget snippet from this page
Add the widget to Wix
- Copy the snippetPick a widget and a theme below, then copy the snippet. On a light Wix template choose the light theme.
- Add an Embed HTML elementIn the Wix Editor click Add Elements, then Embed Code, then Embed HTML. In Wix Studio it is under Add Elements, Embed & Social, Embed Code.
- Paste the codeClick Enter Code on the new element, keep the Code option selected, paste the snippet and click Apply.
- Size the elementWix shows pasted code inside its own frame, so the element does not resize itself. Drag it to at least the widget height plus 40 pixels, for example 600 pixels tall for the economic calendar, and at least 320 pixels wide.
- Check the mobile layoutSwitch to the mobile editor and resize the element there too. Wix keeps desktop and mobile sizes separately.
- PublishClick Publish. A widget that has only been added in the editor is not visible to visitors until the site is published.
Tips for Wix
- One element per widget keeps sizing simple. Place a calendar on a markets page and a single chart beside the article it supports rather than stacking many boxes on one page.
- If you prefer not to paste code, add Embed Code, then Embed a Site, and paste the direct widget address shown below.
If something looks wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The widget shows in the editor but not on the live site | The site has not been published since the element was added. Click Publish, then open the live address in a private window. |
| A scrollbar appears inside the element | The element is shorter than the widget. Drag it taller in both the desktop and the mobile editor. |
| The widget area is blank | Check that the page is served over HTTPS and that the script tag was pasted in full. Some editors only run scripts on the published page, so check the live page rather than the editor preview. |
| The bottom of the widget is cut off | Increase the height of the embed element. The widget needs its own height plus about 40 pixels for the attribution link beneath it. |
| The colours clash with the site | Set data-fxmd-theme to light, dark or transparent to match the page background. |
Questions
Is the widget free on this platform?
Yes. Standard widgets on public pages are free while the FXMacroData attribution link stays visible. Customer-facing or subscriber-only products use the Commercial Redistribution add-on.
Do I need an API key or an account?
No. The snippet is everything the widget needs. An optional free publisher ID adds a stats page with views and clicks for your site.
How often does the data update?
The widget loads current data each time the page is opened, and the release ticker refreshes itself every two minutes. You never need to republish the page.
Can I change the currencies, language or time zone?
Yes. Each option is an attribute on the widget element. The options reference on the install guide lists every attribute and its values.
