What is Energy Commodities?
Energy-commodity price indices track the prices of oil, natural gas, coal, and related fuels. They are reported by the BoC, BoE, and other central banks as part of broader commodity baskets.
Why it matters for FX
Energy prices drive headline inflation in net energy importers (eurozone, Japan, India) and lift export receipts for energy exporters (Norway, Canada, Australia). They are one of the cleanest commodity-FX linkages.
